Blue is such a lovely color, but why is the sky blue?

Fortunately the angles of refraction and the densities of earth’s atmosphere cause a net color of blue. Imagine how ugly the sky might be if it were some other color or combination of colors.

And, just imagine how the sky might appear if the refractive angles for the visible light portion of the electromagnetic spectrum resulted in all visible light primary colors — ROYGBIV — being bent out of sight of observers on earth. Then the sky would be black during the day.

If that were the case, what would the sky appear like at night?
